armchair 02

A small, fine lounge chair.

Very reduced in form, on an elegant steel base.

The form does not come at the expense of comfort: the exact angles and sizes of the seat, back and arm cushions were determined over a long period with different people on a finely adjustable “seating machine”.

The steel base rests on a turntable, so the person sitting can easily rock back and forth or turn all the way round.

The “inner workings”, i.e. the construction and statics of the chair, are very simple and logical. The leg panel “grows” out of the back panel and can therefore be screwed firmly to it. The side plates connect to the armrest parts and are the supporting and stabilising elements of the seat.

The tricky part is the connection between the leg panel and the base plate: for structural and aesthetic reasons it has to be executed precisely and cleanly. The stepped edge of the plate makes production more complex, but in my opinion the visual added value justifies the effort. It also makes it easy to integrate and hide the turntable ring.
