Me and the drawer

Ever since I saw a conventional drawer construction as a boy, I have been “shocked” by the huge disproportion between enclosed space and usable space.

Surely this can be done more efficiently!

Since then, over the years, I have repeatedly given the subject of drawers a lot of thought. The “urgency” about the “wasted space” gradually faded from focus and gave way to a more playful approach in terms of form and technology. Above all, drawers without a load-bearing carcass around them became the centre of my interest: What forms can emerge this way, and how can something like this be realised technically? How and where is which mechanism housed, so that it is either elegantly the form itself or stays invisible?

So far, several technical approaches have emerged and been turned into functional prototypes. A carcass-free piece of furniture was built that already worked to some extent (top right, no longer exists).
